Reframing Art: The Order of Life

The world often appears as chaos, yet within it lies a hidden order and natural laws akin to Laozi's 'the Way.' I believe the remnants of this order remain within us as intuition. Through my practice, I realized my inner perception had been shaped by severe violence within family and social relations. However, by understanding and encouraging myself, I discovered my own internal order—the hope and joy of life. Now, I share this enlightenment through a cross-disciplinary series, wishing that no one else has to suffer as I did.

Artwork Process

My process begins with photography, using cinematic montage to select images that collide and generate new meanings. Raw paints on canvas are pressed with paper to generate chaos. Refusing preconceived images, I then shape the paint with palette knives, guided by immediate visual stimuli to reveal inherent order. These canvases are placed on a singular plane, transforming time into dot-like incidents, telling the past was an inevitable event shaped by the future.

My pursuit connects deeply to 1970s Korean contemporary art, where artists used repetitive physical force under their own systems to manifest the world itself. I inherit this approach in my digital series, 'System.' While repetitively placing my own literary texts in varying directions and sizes, I replace literal meaning with natural elements of beauty like light and matter.

Art as Healing

Believing that rigid interpretation is a form of violence, my exhibitions are designed to be experienced loosely. Artworks are presented alongside series-related music playing throughout the space. Recognizing that my work expresses my scars, I utilize performance to temporarily transcend them and achieve healing. At designated times, live concerts happen, lighting and music videos overlay paintings, or an improvised playground is made. Ultimately, I invite viewers to engage with art through horizontal and pure joy, as that's exactly how art is meant to be experienced.
